Bouchon Bistrot
About This Spot
Stepping into Bouchon Bistrot is like slipping into a quiet moment of French charm nestled in the heart of Hexham. The air moves with a gentle, unhurried rhythm, where the subtle clink of cutlery and soft murmur of conversation create an intimate atmosphere. Large windows invite the light, offering glimpses of the nearby Abbey, which become an unspoken part of your dining experience—an ever-present reminder that you’re sharing more than just a meal, but a moment in place and time.
This is not a bustling brasserie, nor an overly formal dining room, but a thoughtfully curated setting where the details matter: the warmth of freshly baked baguettes, the delicate balance in a perfectly crafted escargot, or a velvet-textured chocolate tart that lingers sweetly on the palate. Each plate, from hearty classics like steak and frites to nuanced dishes such as the sea bass with chorizo, feels like an invitation to slow down and savor rather than rush.
Service here complements the space with attentiveness that feels personal rather than staged. There’s an ease in the way staff navigate the room, attentive without hovering—a respectful hospitality that invites you to relax and return again, whether for a quiet lunch or an evening celebration. The occasional faint strains of French melodies just beyond the dining room help deepen the mood, urging diners to settle into the experience, savoring both food and place.
Bouchon Bistrot also holds the quiet promise of becoming a backdrop to life’s milestones. Its graceful balance of rustic comfort and subtle sophistication makes it well-suited not only as a daily refuge but also as a wedding venue where small human moments transform into lasting memories. Here, meals are more than nourishment—they are shared stories, gently unfolding in the glow of candlelight and the company of friends and family.

Food cooked to perfection 10/10 Espresso Martini 11/10 service 10/10 we love a window seat however we had to request upon arrival as table allocated was too small and felt crammed I could hear next tables full blown conversation the room felt on the cool side the only thing missing was back ground French music I could hear it playing in room adjacent overall a pleasant experience for our first visit on the pricey side for portion sizes but food was good highly recommended for that special occasion. £93 a service charge of £8 on top.

We (me and my husband) have been wondering about trying Bouchon Bistrot for a while. We went for lunch today and it was great. Food was fantastic, service was good, setting was excellent. Price wise it's reasonable; we had 3 courses and wine for just under £100 and could have halved the bill if we were on a budget. It's definitely on our list of places to go back to.

Gorgeous French food, it was absolutely delicious. There was a lovely view of the Abbey whilst we enjoyed the beautifully made food. The duck was cooked to perfection, and melted off the bone. The staff were very friendly. The atmosphere was great, and it was spotlessly clean. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience, and I would recommend here to anyone visiting Hexham.

In terms of quality, value and atmosphere, this is by far our favourite restaurant in Northumberland. The food is always excellent - we have visited 4 times now and the food has been perfect every time - the scallops are especially good. The staff are so accommodating and friendly, we’ve been served by Millie mostly and she can’t do enough. I’d particularly like to highlight the fact that we mentioned that the brand of water being used contained fluoride and there were better options available; the next time we visited they had actually changed the water to the brand we suggested! We couldn’t believe it, that small touch really made us feel at home and we are so appreciative (usually because we have had the odd look for pointing those sort of things out). In summary, this restaurant is 10 out of 10 and we can’t wait to go back.

Awesome early doors prix fixed tonight on our way to a folk gig at Queen's Hall. Coley in a mouclade sauce and Guinea fowl leg with puy lentils. Spiced poached pears and white chocolate mouse wa passion fruit gell. A sable as short as you like. Everything just on point, love the quality and precision of cooking

Delicious French food and a lovely owner! The place is even cuter and better decorated than many of the pictures on Google Maps suggest. Some of the waitresses could use a bit more training, but that’s perfectly normal. I’ll happily give it 5/5!

Amazing Prix Fix. But if a splurge for me at £22 for a lunch menu but it was worth every penny. Pork belly starter, coley for main, and a delicious glass of house red. Nice but pricey
